I stumbled upon this in my phone last week. I wrote it back in 2015. I randomly decided to post it today lol Enjoy!
What are you focused on right now? What is always on your mind? What is the thing that you are always praying for? I recently just graduated from college and the thing that has been on my mind lately is finding a job. My prayers are consumed by it. I'm constantly filling out applications. I'm always dreading going to my current job and I often go into a daze of what it would be like to have a better job. I tend to get frustrated because I have applied to over 20 jobs in the past month, and I have only got a phone call back from one company. My mind is filled with worry and I am constantly questioning God. I question why it's taking so long and why nobody else has called me back. As I was walking home from a bible study, God revealed something to me. My focus was off. My vision was clear, but I wasn't focused on the right thing. There's nothing wrong with what I was doing, but I was spending too much time focusing on it. The job that I am looking for; it’s the smaller picture—it's peripheral vision. I'm not saying that it's not important. When driving a vehicle, peripheral vision is a must have. You need to be able to see the cars and other objects to the left and right of you. Without it, you'll have a difficult time driving. On the other hand, focusing too much on the things in your peripheral vision will cause you to crash. Peripheral vision is important, but not nearly as important as the vision in front of you. Other cars, road signs, traffic patterns, etc, are the things that you will see when you focus on what is in front of you—it is the big picture. In life, God is the big picture. He is what our main focus should be on. He knows we have desires and he doesn't mind when we talk to him about those desires, but our relationship shouldn't be based off of those desires. Those are small things.
There's so much more to God then him blessing me with another job. There's so much more to God then him blessing me at all. With everything that he did for us and is still doing for us, shouldn't he deserve more than the Christmas list we whine and plead to him all the time with? God is much bigger than that. Imagine a wife only talking to her husband when she wants a new purse or necklace. After a while the husband is going to get upset and leave her. Why? Because their relationship is only based off of what she wants. It's the same thing with God. We are thankful that he won't ever leave us, but still he is the big picture. He isn't a magic genie. He does hear our cries however. He cares for you deeply and doesn't want you to dwell on that current situation. Instead he wants you to continue to give him praise; continue to give him your problems. He is the right focus. Fix your eyes on him!
We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne. Think of all the hostility he endured from sinful people; then you won’t become weary and give up.
Look straight ahead, and fix your eyes on what lies before you.
